CLIMATE & SOIL

Papua New Guinea sits in the heart of the South Pacific, known for fertile land and rich soil that give rise to some of the world’s most distinctive flavors.

It is also one of the few places where both major commercial varieties of vanilla can be grown successfully.

Vanilla planifolia (Classic), known for its depth and warmth, and Vanilla tahitensis (Pacific), prized for its floral, aromatic character, both thrive under its stable equatorial conditions.

On Manus Island, vanilla grows in fertile volcanic soil, under steady heat and rainfall year-round. This allows for slow, even maturation, giving flavor time to fully develop.

After harvest, the beans are slowly sun-dried and cured using artisanal methods that allow flavor to develop naturally over time.

Vanilla from Manus Island reflects its environment: warm, humid, mineral-rich, and unhurried. The result is a balanced, fragrant vanilla, defined by depth rather than intensity.

We work with each variety, and each harvest, on its own terms.

This is not commercial vanilla. It’s vanilla shaped by place.

WHY MANUS ISLAND?

Manus Island is a small volcanic island in Papua New Guinea, roughly the size of the Hawaiian island of Maui but far removed from global supply chains. Located two degrees south of the equator and surrounded by some of the world’s warmest ocean waters, the island experiences steady warmth and rainfall year-round, maintaining a stable, humid climate.

These conditions are rare and well suited to vanilla.

We believe origin matters. And Manus deserves its name on the label.

COMMUNITY & CONSISTENCY

For farmers on Manus Island, the challenge isn’t growing quality vanilla.

It’s selling it consistently.

Because the island is remote, buyers often come and go. Prices fluctuate. Farmers are left without reliable income or the ability to plan for the future.
